  今回は、日本人の生活スタイルである、「床に直接座る」文化について 考察していきたいと思います。 ①高温多湿の気候から生まれた日本式建築 日本の建築様式は元来、中国から持ち込まれたものでした。 そのため、お寺などの建物は中国から持ち込まれ、日本の建築として発展していきました。 そこで考えたいのが、日本の気候です。 日本は島国であることから高温多湿な気候でありました。 そのため、屋根が建物に比べて突き出ていることです。 これは、激しい雨が降っても建物の中に雨が侵入するのを防ぐためであると考えられています。 この突き出した屋根によって、太陽の光が部屋の中に入りづらいことも、日本建築の特徴です。 ②日中でも暗い和室 　下記の写真は、和室の中で立ち上がった状態で文字を読んでいる写真と、和室に座った状態で文字を読んでいる写真になります。 和室で立ちあがた状態の明るさ 和室で床に座った時の明るさ 　この写真から分かるように、座った状態の方が明るく字が読みやすいことがわかります。現代のように、電気が存在していなかった時代には明るい床に近い位置で、食事をしたり読書などをしていたと考えられます。 　これらのことから、日本人は世界的にも珍しい床に直接座る文化が誕生したと考えられます。故に、「畳」という自然素材を使用した独特の床材も誕生したのです。
